YouTube cracks down on AI videos

As generative algorithms continue to produce endless streams of cheap, mass-generated videos, YouTube is preparing to completely overhaul its monetization rules to counter the flood of inauthentic content.

Starting July 15, the platform will introduce stricter criteria defining what counts as “authentic content” and limit monetization for channels that publish repetitive or generic clips at scale. Targeted are not only fully AI-generated videos but also channels that upload minimally altered versions of the same material or endless mashup variations.

The new rules will be enforced through a combination of automated detection systems and human review to accurately identify and flag suspicious content. Although the full text of the policy has not yet been published, YouTube reminds creators that they have always been required to produce original and authentic work.

With this move, YouTube aims to stop the flood of low-quality, algorithmically stitched videos that threaten to undermine the platform’s value. As the number of so-called content farms grows, YouTube is making it clear that it wants to protect its ecosystem and preserve a space where creativity has an advantage over digital noise.
