The third gathering within the “Science over Coffee” initiative brought together a large number of participants, confirming that curiosity for science and technology is alive in our community.
In the pleasant setting of Club Špica, with an informal atmosphere and engaging interaction, we discussed the topic “Light as a Driver of Science and Technology”, presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Benjamin Fetić, an expert in physics and modern technological achievements.
Through a dynamic lecture and open dialogue, we touched upon key questions and fascinating facts:
- How lasers from the 1960s laid the foundation for today’s technologies and photon-based quantum encryption, which protects data in the age of quantum computers.
- The story of the Big Bang, inspired and popularized through culture, including Sheldon Cooper’s theory, which helped bring science closer to everyday life.
- An interesting piece of domestic technological history: Energoinvest already had a laser technology project back in 1988, just two years after IBM.
- A discussion on how modern computers function thanks to the fundamentals of electron science, without which we would not have computers today.
The audience actively participated, asking questions and sharing insights, showing that this format not only brings complex topics closer to the wider community but also inspires new research and innovation.
We would like to thank UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina for its strategic and continuous support of this initiative, which builds a bridge between science, innovation, and society.
Nauka uz kafu – because knowledge grows when we share it.
