Pew poll shows global AI concern outweighs excitement

A new global survey by the Pew Research Center reveals that most people around the world feel more fear than excitement about the growing presence of artificial intelligence. In a poll conducted among over 28,000 respondents across 25 countries, half of the citizens in countries such as the U.S., Italy, Australia, and Greece expressed concern about the increasing use of AI technologies.

In contrast, countries like Israel, South Korea, and Sweden show significantly more optimism, believing that AI will bring progress and improve quality of life. Regarding trust in regulators, the European Union leads with 53% trust, while the U.S. (37%) and China (27%) are rated significantly lower in terms of AI development oversight.

Interestingly, people under 35 show greater openness and enthusiasm toward AI, while older generations express more skepticism and fear of the consequences the technology might bring — from job loss to reduced privacy.

These results clearly show that, although artificial intelligence has already become part of daily life, the world is still unsure how to handle its impact. While some see it as a powerful tool for progress, others fear it could change society faster than we are ready to adapt.
