OpenAI has announced that the enterprise version of ChatGPT – including access to advanced models and enhanced security features – will be available to all U.S. federal agencies for just $1 per agency over the next year.
This special offer comes through a partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA), the central procurement body of the U.S. government. In addition, agencies will receive unlimited use of advanced OpenAI models and features like Deep Research for an extra 60-day period.
The goal of this initiative is to make everyday work easier for civil servants, reduce paperwork, and accelerate processes, ultimately making public services “faster, simpler, and more reliable.” To ensure federal employees adapt smoothly to the tool, OpenAI will create a dedicated user community for government institutions, supported with tailored training and resources.
This move demonstrates OpenAI’s clear strategy to embed itself deeply within government operations, which could prompt competitors such as Anthropic and Google to introduce similar, aggressive collaboration models. It may mark the beginning of a new phase of AI adoption in government administration on a large scale.
