Hyundai to launch massive U.S. robotics hub

Hyundai Motor Group announced it will invest $26 billion in the U.S. by 2028, with $5 billion allocated for building a state-of-the-art robotics manufacturing facility. The planned plant will have the capacity to produce 30,000 robots annually and will serve as a true “Robotics Innovation Hub.”

This new infrastructure will cover design, production, testing, and deployment of advanced robots, positioning Hyundai at the forefront of global robotics. A key factor is Hyundai’s 80% stake in Boston Dynamics, which means the new center will accelerate commercialization and mass production of its well-known robots Spot and Atlas.

Beyond robotics, the investment plan also includes constructing a new steel mill in Louisiana, as well as expanding Hyundai and Kia’s existing U.S. manufacturing operations.

Why does this matter? With this move, Hyundai joins the ranks of companies making the most decisive investments in robotics and smart factories. The new U.S. facility will be one of the largest and most advanced in the world, with capabilities rarely seen outside of China or experimental labs. In addition to enabling rapid development and wider application of robots, the project will also create thousands of new jobs, strengthening Hyundai’s position as a leader in industrial and humanoid robotics.
