HTC debuts Meta-like smart glasses

Taiwanese tech giant HTC has launched Vive Eagle, its first pair of AI-powered smart glasses. The device was unveiled in Taipei and resembles Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses in design, with a focus on elegance and everyday practicality.

Vive Eagle comes in a lightweight frame weighing only 49 grams, featuring modern transparent finishes and a design optimized for discreet wear. Inside, it houses a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, along with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.

The glasses support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, with pairing for phones (Android 10+ or iOS 17.6+) done via the Vive Connect app. They are also equipped with open stereo speakers and run on HTC’s own Vive AI assistant, which is compatible with both ChatGPT and Gemini models.

One of the key functions is real-time translation across 13 languages, local data processing without cloud connection, and AES-256 military-grade encryption, making them particularly attractive to privacy-focused users.

Priced at 15,600 New Taiwan dollars (around $520 USD), HTC is targeting competitors like Meta and Oakley smart glasses. For now, however, Vive Eagle will only be available in Taiwan.
