Google has announced the launch of its smart glasses powered by artificial intelligence in 2026, officially entering the fast-growing segment of AI wearables. The project is being developed in partnership with Samsung, Warby Parker, and fashion brand Gentle Monster, with the goal of competing directly with Meta, which currently holds a leading position in the market.
Two versions of the glasses are in development — one audio-only model designed for hands-free access to an AI assistant, and another featuring in-lens displays intended for navigation and real-time translation. Most of the data processing will reportedly be handled by a connected smartphone, allowing the glasses to remain lightweight and visually similar to traditional eyewear.
While Meta has faced challenges in AI development, it has successfully positioned itself in the wearables space through partnerships with Ray-Ban and Oakley. However, Google enters the market with strong advantages — advanced AI models, a broad application ecosystem, and Gemini technology — which could significantly shift the balance of power in the smart glasses industry.
