Anthropic surveys its own engineers on AI’s impact

Anthropic released an internal study based on responses from 132 engineers, revealing how AI tools have significantly changed daily work within the company — increasing productivity while also raising questions such as skill loss, reduced mentorship, and career uncertainty.

Engineers report that they now use Claude for 60% of their tasks, with an estimated productivity increase of 50%, double that of last year. More than a quarter of AI tasks involve work that previously would not have been done — such as data cleaning, internal dashboards, and experiments not worth manual effort.

Claude Code can now execute about 20 consecutive actions without human intervention, compared to 10 six months ago, allowing increasingly complex workflows to be handed off to the model. Yet, despite these improvements, some employees expressed concern — one said they “come to work every day feeling like they’re working to make their own job obsolete.”

The study comes at a time when the entire Claude 4.5 family has already been launched, likely further boosting productivity — while also showing that even leading AI labs are not immune to broader questions about the future of work.
