Chinese tech giant Alibaba has just unveiled a flood of new Qwen3 models — six variants covering text, vision, audio, and security functions. At the center of attention is Qwen-Max, an AI model with 1 trillion parameters, ranking among the most powerful systems ever developed in China.
Qwen-Max demonstrates near-frontier performance in coding and agent tasks, while its Heavy version achieves perfect scores on mathematical reasoning tests. The Omni model is multimodal, capable of processing text, images, audio, and video, understanding speech in 19 languages, and generating outputs in 10 languages.
The visual model VL has proven to be the best among open systems, surpassing some closed models in image recognition and analysis accuracy. Additionally, Alibaba released LiveTranslate-Flash for real-time translation, Guard models for moderation and security monitoring, and new Coder models optimized for development tasks.
Unlike Western companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, which release larger models in slower cycles, Alibaba is accelerating the pace — launching multiple specialized models simultaneously and aggressively pushing the boundaries of China’s AI sector. This offensive confirms that Qwen3 is currently the closest Chinese model to the global top since DeepSeek R1, sending a clear signal that China aims to secure an equal place in the global AI race.
