OpenAI’s AI jobs platform, certification program

OpenAI’s Director of Applications, Fidji Simo, announced the launch of the OpenAI Jobs Platform, designed to connect companies with workers who possess AI skills, alongside a new certification program in AI literacy.

The platform will allow employers to find candidates skilled in using AI tools, with special programs tailored for small businesses and local governments seeking talented workers. OpenAI has already partnered with Walmart and other employers to develop certification programs delivered directly through ChatGPT, enabling learning across different levels of AI literacy.

Simo highlighted the goal of certifying as many as 10 million Americans in AI literacy by 2030. The program builds on resources previously developed through OpenAI Academy, now expanded and formalized through partnerships with the education and business sectors.

This initiative comes in parallel with White House efforts to promote AI literacy, as technology leaders gather in Washington to discuss workforce development in the age of artificial intelligence.

By launching its own marketplace for AI talent and certifications, OpenAI is positioning itself not only as a disruptor transforming jobs but also as a builder of infrastructure for worker reskilling. This puts the company in direct competition with LinkedIn (owned by Microsoft), opening a new front in the increasingly rivalrous relationship between the two technology partners.
