Microsoft’s AI job risk list

Microsoft recently released a list that sparked a new wave of concern among professionals in creative and intellectual fields. Based on an in-depth analysis of over 900 occupations, researchers assigned each job an “AI score” — a rating that indicates how closely each role aligns with the capabilities of today’s generative AI.

At the top of the list are translators, historians, sales representatives, and writers — roles where large language models are already showing surprisingly strong performance. Other professions considered at high risk of automation include brokerage clerks, telemarketers, political analysts, mathematicians, editors, PR specialists, and business school lecturers.

Interestingly, Microsoft is also preparing to lay off up to 9,000 employees in 2025, citing a shift in resources toward AI investments exceeding $80 billion.

At the other end of the spectrum, several jobs remain largely untouched by AI — including marine excavator operators, bridge tenders, and medical doctors.
