This July, Sarajevo is hosting the prestigious EEML summer school, which has arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the first time, immediately setting high standards as a regional hub for knowledge, innovation, and technological development. More than 350 participants from over 50 countries have gathered for six days of learning about cutting-edge topics in artificial intelligence – from generative models and deep learning to AI ethics and biomedical applications.
Among the keynote speakers are prominent experts such as:
- Samy Bengio (Apple AI Research) – a pioneer in deep learning and speech/image recognition
- Alden Hung (Isomorphic Labs) – an expert in AI for drug development
- Aaron Courville (Université de Montréal) – co-author of the book Deep Learning and a specialist in generative models
Suad Krilašević, president of ANNT, emphasized that the program offers valuable insights for both seasoned professionals and those just entering the field of AI.
As part of EEML, a public panel titled “The potential of artificial intelligence in BiH: Vision, challenges, and the way forward” will be held on Thursday, July 24 at 11:20 AM. The goal of the panel is to bring together government representatives, researchers, the business community, and citizens to discuss:
- Where Bosnia and Herzegovina currently stands in terms of AI development
- What obstacles lie ahead
- How to build a responsible, inclusive, and competitive AI ecosystem
Participation is free, but space is limited. Registration is available here.
The EEML school in Sarajevo is organized by the Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (ANNT) – a network of young scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina with remarkable careers at institutions such as Stanford, MIT, CERN, and Google DeepMind.
Since 2017, ANNT has carried out numerous projects aimed at strengthening the scientific and AI community in the country, and through organizing EEML 2025, it continues its mission to ensure that knowledge and excellence are nurtured and developed right here – in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
